More post-spring top-25 rankings are rolling in, most recently from On3’s J.D. PicKell. PicKell dropped his list Tuesday morning, and Notre Dame is No. 6.

The Irish slotted behind Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, Clemson and Oregon, respectively. Georgia, LSU, South Carolina and Texas A&M round out the rest of PicKell’s top 10.

“I want to see who the starting quarterback is gonna be,” PicKell said on his YouTube show, The Hard Count. “[I] feel pretty confident it’s gonna be CJ Carr. But even so, man, it’s gonna be Groundhog Day for that defense.”

PicKell believes the Irish will maintain their defensive prowess under Chris Ash, who replaced Al Golden as defensive coordinator when Golden left for the Cincinnati Bengals days after the 2024 season.

“That’s a testament to [Irish head coach] Marcus Freeman,” PicKell said. “I think the Freeman traits for Notre Dame are actually 100 percent real, and they are a top-10 team in college football. No way around it.”
