Newsstand: Where Notre Dame players appear in The Athletic NFL Draft position rankings
The deeper dives into the 2023 NFL Draft class are trickling out. The Athletic’s Dane Brugler provided the latest, and included Notre Dame players in it.
Brugler ranked the top 15 prospects at every position Tuesday, with three Irish players featured. Michael Mayer is the No. 1 tight end, Isaiah Foskey the No. 7 edge rusher and Jarrett Patterson the No. 11 interior lineman.
Mayer and Foskey appeared in Brugler’s two-round mock draft, with the former going No. 21 overall to the Los Angeles Chargers and the latter No. 55 to the Detroit Lions.
“Mayer is a physical blocker and will be one of the best contested-catch tight ends in the NFL the moment he is drafted,” Brugler wrote in his mock, released Jan. 17.

Irish safety Brandon Joseph, who some draft analysts consider a potential Day 3 pick, was not included in Brugler’s position rankings.
Patterson and Foskey will play in the Senior Bowl Feb. 4. Mayer, a three-and-done college player, is not in an All-Star game. All three are likely to secure invitations to the NFL Combine, which is Feb. 27 through March 6.
