Notre Dame sets date for start of spring practice and kickoff time for Blue-Gold Game
Notre Dame football is going for brevity with its 2023 spring practice schedule. The Irish are squeezing 14 sessions and the Blue-Gold Game into exactly one month.
The Irish’s first spring practice is March 22, the team announced Monday. That session or any of the other 13 practices are not open to the public. The team will hold Pro Day March 24 for its 2023 NFL Draft prospects.
The Blue-Gold Game, previously announced for April 22, will kick off at 2 p.m. ET and will be streamed on Peacock. Fighting Irish TV will have the game broadcast available to watch on demand after the scrimmage ends. Tickets are on sale at UND.com/BuyTickets or by calling 833-NDIRISH.
Last year’s spring practice started March 17, and the Blue-Gold Game was April 22. Like 2022, the Irish are waiting until after the school’s spring break (March 11-19) to start practices. The team held a draft to determine rosters for the spring scrimmage. Gold won last year’s game 13-10 on quarterback Steve Angeli’s 10-yard touchdown run as time expired. Notre Dame announced an attendance of 33,754 for the 2022 game.

Marcus Freeman used the Blue-Gold Game weekend last year as a chance to welcome back former players. Nearly 300 of them were on campus for the game and other football alumni engagement activities that week. It’s not yet clear if similar plans are in store for 2023. The spring game is also typically an important weekend for hosting recruits on unofficial visits.

Every Notre Dame player with expired eligibility who wants to participate in Pro Day will have the chance to do so. For most, it will be their only time doing on-field workouts and drills in front of NFL teams.
Tight end Michael Mayer, defensive end Isaiah Foskey, offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson and safety Brandon Joseph – considered the team’s top four draft prospects for 2023 – will have had prior workouts in front of NFL personnel and in-person meetings with teams at the NFL Combine, which starts this week in Indianapolis. Foskey and Patterson also participated in Senior Bowl practices and meetings in late January and early February.
