Newsstand: When, how to watch Notre Dame hockey in NCAA Tournament
Postseason play abounds for Notre Dame Athletics.
The Fighting Irish men’s and women’s basketball teams have combined to play five NCAA Tournament games in the last week. Thursday night, it’s the hockey team’s turn. Head coach Jeff Jackson has the Irish in the postseason for the 12th time in his tenure and 13th time in program history.
Notre Dame (27-11-0) will take on North Dakota (24-13-1) in a single-elimination game in the Albany Regional tonight at 6 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The Irish are the No. 3 seed in the region. North Dakota is No. 2. The winner will take on No. 1 seed Minnesota State (35-5-0) or No. 4 seed Harvard (21-10-3) in the regional championship game on Saturday.
Notre Dame qualified for the Albany Regional last year but was removed from the tournament days before the first game due to positive COVID-19 tests within the team. This year, Jackson and his players are fortunate for the chance to lace them up and take the ice.
“I’ve been emphasizing to our guys to be grateful for the opportunity to play,” Jackson said. “If anything, for me, it’s all about gratitude and how fortunate we are to be able to be in this game and play in this game. Obviously we are playing to win and playing to get to the Frozen Four but also to try to embrace the moment. You only get so many kicks at the can.”
