Newsstand: How Notre Dame baseball has fared through 13 games
The first few weeks of Notre Dame baseball’s Shawn Stiffler Era have played out far away from South Bend. The Irish have been all over the South since their Feb. 17 opener and will not play at Frank Eck Stadium until March 21 – 18 games into the season.
The results have been up and down so far. Notre Dame is 7-6 overall and 1-2 in ACC play. They have won two straight, though, most recently a 6-3 victory over St. Joseph’s Tuesday in Holly Springs, N.C. They opened the season losing two of three at Lipscomb, winning two of three at UNC Greensboro, winning a three-game series at UAB and dropping two of three at Georgia Tech. They lost the first two games against the Yellow Jackets by a combined score of 22-6, but won the finale 17-4.
All told, Notre Dame has a 5.02 team ERA and a .204 team batting average. They entered Tuesday with a .328 on base percentage. First baseman Carter Putz, third baseman Jack Penney and catcher Danny Neri are tied for the team lead in home runs (2). Penney has a team-high 11 RBI.
