Newsstand: Notre Dame baseball announces addition to coaching staff
Lucas Jones is joining the Notre Dame baseball coaching staff, the university announced Thursday. Jones, who was in his sixth season as the head coach at Division III Lynchburg for the Hornets’ 2023 national championship, will coordinate infield development while assisting hitting coach Ryan Munger.
Fighting Irish head coach Shawn Stiffler and Jones have a relationship dating back to their time together at VCU in 2007. Stiffler was an assistant for the Rams while Jones was a graduate assistant. Jones was a career .426 hitter at Lynchburg, where he graduated magna cum laude from in 2005.
“Lucas has been a winner at every level of college baseball,” Stiffler said in a statement. “During his head coaching stops, Lucas has taken three different programs and turned them into national brands and champions. His love for teaching the game and ability to develop relationships will have a huge impact on our program. We are thrilled to have Lucas, Karla and their three children join the Notre Dame family.”
