Notre Dame football 2024 class running back commit Kedren Young is headed to San Antonio … for the NBC All-American Bowl.

On Thursday, the four-star recruit from Lufkin (Texas) High announced his intention to play in the annual all-star game. Come Jan. 6, 100 high school football recruits will suit up for the respective East vs. West squads to compete in the contest.

Young joins quarterback CJ Carr, wide receiver Cam Williams, offensive tackle Guerby Lambert and linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, who will represent Notre Dame as NBC All-Americans this year.

In 2023, the Irish had seven players featured as NBC All-Americans: offensive tackle Sullivan Absher, cornerback Micah Bell, linebacker Drayk Bowen, wide receiver Rico Flores Jr., offensive lineman Charles Jagusah, quarterback Kenny Minchey, safety Adon Shuler and defensive lineman Brenan Vernon

Flores, Jagusah and Minchey did not play in the game.

Young reported an invitation to play in the All-American Bowl on Thursday afternoon. Six games into his senior season, he has rushed for 831 yards and 8 touchdowns on 147 carries (5.7 yards per carry).

The On3 Industry Ranking — a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — considers Young the No. 101 overall player, No. 8 running back nationally and No. 18 prospect in Texas. He has a 93.44 rating.

In On3’s own rankings, he’s the No. 71 prospect, No. 5 prospect at his position in the country and No. 15 player in Texas. On3 most recently assigned a 94 rating to him.

Young’s On3 NIL Valuation annual value is $94,000. That ranks No. 252 among high school football prospects.

Background on Young’s Notre Dame football recruitment

Despite already having one running back committed in 2024, the Irish targeted the 5-foot-11, 225-pound Young. Notre Dame running backs coach Deland McCullough offered Young a scholarship on Jan. 31.

Young announced his verbal commitment to the Fighting Irish on June 5. He joined the 2024 class and fellow running back pledge Aneyas Williams. His pledge came just two days after his Notre Dame official visit began. That was Young’s first trip to campus.

Williams is the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 216 overall player, No. 17 running back nationally and No. 6 prospect in Missouri. The 5-9 1/2, 200-pounder attends Hannibal (Mo.) High.

Young reported 23 scholarship offers during his recruitment. Eighteen of those were from Power Five programs. Before committing to the Irish, he visited the University of Texas at San Antonio (4), Texas Tech (3), Texas A&M (2), Missouri, Texas, Baylor, LSU and Stephen F. Austin. The latter two schools did not offer him.

As a junior, Young rushed for 1,751 yards and 19 touchdowns on 237 carries (7.4 yards per carry).
