Newsstand: Details on Notre Dame’s interesting spot in the ESPN FPI
After falling 31-23 against the Clemson Tigers, Notre Dame dropped from No. 12 to No. 22 in both the AP and Coaches Poll with its 7-3 record.
But interestingly enough, the ESPN Football Power Index (FPI) is still high on the Fighting Irish for the rest of the season, and Notre Dame only moved down one spot according to that metric.
According to ESPN, the FPI is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule.
Notre Dame moved down just one spot from No. 11 to No. 12. The FPI projects the Irish to finish the regular season with a 9-3 record with an 89 percent chance to win out.

Notre Dame quote of the day
“I want to first acknowledge the moment. Obviously, it was a tough game for us. A lesson that we’re going to learn. Obviously it was not something we wanted to experience, but I want to acknowledge the moment. I’m thankful to be a part of this. We’re grateful to have a team to be here, to be in Paris. I thought the crowd was electric. The energy was amazing. It was a first-class event. This is just an unbelievable experience for us.”
