Newsstand: CBS Sports projects which college football bowl game will feature Notre Dame
College football has officially crossed its midway point, and schools are being projected to play in bowl games.
CBS Sports released its bowl projections for the 2023 season earlier this week. They picked No. 15 Notre Dame (6-2) to face Kansas (5-2) in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. The game occurs on Dec. 28 at 5:45 p.m. at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
The game was previously known under several other names, including most recently, Camping World (2017-19) and Russell Athletic (2012-16). Kellogg’s has been the title sponsor since 2020.
Notre Dame previously faced Iowa State (2019) and Florida State (2011) in the game. The Irish beat ISU 33-9 but lost to FSU 18-14. Kansas took on NC State in the 2003 Tangerine Bowl — one of its many previous names — and lost 56-26.
Last season, Notre Dame played in The Gator Bowl and beat South Carolina 43-38. It marked coach Marcus Freeman’s first bowl game victory. Kansas faced Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl and lost 55-53 in a three-overtime classic.
The Irish are 4-1-1 all-time against Kansas. They last played in 1999, a game Notre Dame won 48-13. Before that, it had not faced the Jayhawks since 1938.
