Three years after he forewent his senior year at Notre Dame to declare for the NFL Draft, former Irish tight end Cole Kmet is back in South Bend to finish his degree.

Kmet, drafted No. 43 overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2020 NFL Draft, is enrolled in spring semester classes at the University of Notre Dame. According to NBC 5 Chicago, Kmet has been progressing toward his degree by taking online classes. But now, he’s taking in-person classes twice weekly to complete it.

NBC Chicago also reports that Kmet is nine hours shy of his degree in political science and living with his younger brother, Casey Kmet, in downtown South Bend. The younger Kmet is a redshirt junior infielder for the Notre Dame baseball team.

In three seasons with the Irish, Cole caught 60 receptions for 691 yards and six touchdowns. Kmet has hauled in 138 passes for 1,399 yards and nine touchdowns in the same amount of time with the Bears. Last season, he had a career-high seven touchdown grabs.

According to spotrac, Kmet has earned $6.1 million in his NFL career and will claim an additional $2.9 million this upcoming season.
