The Davey O’Brien Award is the oldest and most prestigious college honor given to quarterbacks in college football, and it honored Notre Dame signal-caller Drew Pyne on Monday.

Each week, the Davey O’Brien Award names a “great 8” list for the best quarterback performances from the previous week. Pyne was on the list along with TCU’s Max Duggan, Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Michigan’s JJ McCarthy, Mississippi State’s Will Rogers, Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, UCLA’s Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Houston’s Clayton Tune.

Inclusion in the “great 8” also adds a quarterback to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list. For this week, that included Pyne, McCarthy and Ewers.

Quote of the day

“What you’re finally starting to see is he had 3 catches, but they were big catches. The one was a touchdown, one was a third down. He’s probably one of our best route-runners and can be one of our best receivers and playmakers on offense. We just have to continue to improve. He has to continue to do it in a game, because he’s practicing at a high level.”
