Newsstand: Notre Dame player appears on PFF’s team of the week
After every weekend of college football action, Pro Football Focus (PFF) puts out its college football team of the week, and for Week 2 action, a Notre Dame player made the list.
Sophomore tight end Holden Staes was the player who was honored and for good reason. In the Irish’s 45-24 victory over NC State, Staes caught 4 of 5 targets for 115 yards with 2 touchdowns. PFF gave him a 92.9 offensive grade, which was best in the country among tight ends who played at least 10 snaps. Staes saw 30 offensive reps on Saturday.
Through three games, Staes has hauled in 5 passes for 119 yards with 3 touchdowns. His first career catch went for a score in the Irish’s second game of the season against Tennessee State.

Quote of the day
“The two-minute drive before the half was, again, really good. That’s three games in a row — I’ve been aggressive when the other team has the ball when calling timeouts because I believe if we have the chance to get the ball in our offense’s hands, with no matter how much time, if it’s more than 30 seconds, I am going to call a timeout. So I can get the ball in the offense’s hands and give them the chance to run a two-minute operation. I was pleased with the way we did that.”
