Multiple reports surfaced on Monday regarding a future blockbuster home-and-home matchup between Notre Dame and Texas, but it’s going to be a while before it takes place.

On Texas Football’s Bobby Burton broke the news when he tweeted out the following the morning of Nov. 4: “I am told that Texas and Notre Dame are expected to sign an agreement to play in 2028-2029 keeping with the Horns’ and Chris Del Conte (UT AD) philosophy of scheduling major non-conference opponents.”

The news has yet to become official, but Texas should be joining Arkansas, Purdue, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Boston College, Miami (FL), Pittsburgh and Navy on Notre Dame’s reported 2028 schedule. And for the 2029 season, the Irish have Alabama, USF, N.C. State, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Wake Forest, Navy and Syracuse already on the docket. This is all per fbschedules.com.

The Longhorns and Fighting Irish have played 12 times, including most recently a home-and-home back in 2015 and 2016. Notre Dame crushed Texas at home back 38-3 back in 2015, while the Longhorns got the win the following year 50-47 in Austin.

Notre Dame tweets of the day

Quote of the day

“I still think our ability to run the ball is something that we have to be able to do. We’ve done a really good job of doing that which creates some ability to throw the ball downfield. And that’s what we have to continue to do. We have to run the ball no matter who happens to be running the ball. And take some shots downfield when teams are going to have extra hats in the box.

“We’ve worked on that. We’ve worked the fundamentals of every position on our team. We have to enhance and improve. But I still want to be an offense that runs the football, makes explosive plays downfield, take advantage of those explosive plays. We’ve done that and we have to continue to get better.”
