Newsstand: Names tied to Notre Dame linked with Indiana head coach opening
Indiana is in search of a new head coach after the Hoosiers fired Tom Allen, who had served in the role since 2017. And The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman has a couple interesting names of Notre Dame interest to the opening.
One of them is former Notre Dame quarterback and current Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.
“He has spent a lot of time in the state and is wise beyond his years,” Feldman wrote. “The former Notre Dame quarterback has had a good debut season in Tuscaloosa working with a very green O-line, and has done very impressive work developing Jalen Milroe into a budding star.”
The other name of interest is Irish running backs coach Deland McCullough, who is in his second year coaching in South Bend.

“(McCullough) has some strong ties to IU,” wrote Feldman. “The former NFL running back spent two stints in Bloomington. He’s done an outstanding job wherever he’s coached and has been regarded as a top assistant coach, regardless of position, for a long time … The 50-year-old is a strong personality and has been in the mix for some MAC head coaching jobs previously.”
Names such as Michigan offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, Toledo head coach Jason Candle and former NFL coach and ex-South Bend resident Jon Gruden are also linked to Indiana per Feldman’s report.
