On Tuesday, the Notre Dame football communications department released the team’s injury and availability report for Sunday’s Week 1 game against Miami. There was one notable name absent from it.

The Fighting Irish will be without nine players, including four who are out for the season. However, sixth-year defensive end Jordan Botelho, who tore his left pectoral muscle while working out at home in late May, is available to play versus the Hurricanes, according to head coach Marcus Freeman.

“We didn’t expect Jordan to be back for Week 1,” Freeman said. “The work he’s put in to put himself in position, physically and mentally, to help this football team shows you his commitment to this football team.”

Botelho was playing the best football of his career early in the 2024 season before he suffered a torn patellar tendon in Week 3 at Purdue.

Throughout two-plus games, Botelho totaled a team-leading 7 quarterback pressures, including 5 in Week 1 at Texas A&M. He also notched a sack against the Boilermakers before his injury.

Throughout his career, Botelho has 16 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks.
