On Monday, the Notre Dame football communications team released its pregame injury report ahead of Saturday’s Week 12 game against Virginia. The most notable update is that graduate student defensive lineman Howard Cross III will be out due to an ankle injury sustained last Saturday against Florida State.

“It’s not a long-term thing,” coach Marcus Freeman said during his Monday news conference. “Doctors made a determination, probably, that he is going to be out this week. We’ll hope to get him back the following week, depending on how the rehab continues to happen.”

In addition to Cross, graduate student running back Devyn Ford (right groin), graduate student cornerback Max Hurleman (left hamstring) and freshman Loghan Thomas (right hamstring) are all listed as questionable. Ford and Hurleman played in Saturday’s win against the Seminoles. Thomas was not in uniform.

“Talking to (Max), he’s probably probable, knowing Max,” Freeman said. “But we are going to list him as questionable right now. Devyn Ford questionable. Loghan Thomas, we’ll list him as questionable right now, but I think by the end of the week, he’ll be probable to play.”

While an official update was not provided, Notre Dame senior Jason Onye remains out with a personal matter. He has not been listed on the team’s depth chart.

“He’s just taking some personal time right now to get some things that he needs,” Freeman said last Monday. “So, if there’s a chance for him to return, we would love to have him back. But right now, we just got to support Jason getting the help he needs for Jason.”

Onye did not play against Stanford, Georgia Tech, Navy or Florida State. Before stepping away from the team, he had 7 tackles (4 solo), 1.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks and 1 pass breakup in five games.
