Despite a setback against Northern Illinois last Saturday, Vegas still likes the Notre Dame football program to beat the Purdue Boilermakers by more than one possession this Saturday.

According to Circa Sports, the Fighting Irish open as a 12-point favorite against Purdue in Week 3. The over/under total is 47.5 points.

By losing to NIU, the Irish failed to cover a 28-point spread. The points total (30) also went under 44.5. Sp, Notre Dame is 1-1 against the spread this season, and the “under” has hit in both outings.

The Boilermakers had a bye week after beating Indiana State 49-0 on Aug. 31. In that game, they covered a 35.5-point spread. However, the total stayed under 51.5 points.

Saturday’s Notre Dame vs. Purdue game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.

Notre Dame Quote of the Weekend

“I talked about that with my staff. My D-line coach, we went to high school together. We took a buddy’s trip in high school and came to a Notre Dame game. That’s the last time I was here. They had wooden benches with a number on it, and you had to just sit.

“So if you had any type of girth, it was uncomfortable. But going to a Catholic high school in Fort Wayne, and all my buddies are Notre Dame loyalists, but they supported NIU today. I certainly appreciate that.”

— NIU coach Thomas Hammock on attending a Catholic high school and winning a game at Notre Dame.
