On Thursday, Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard added award recognition to his mid-season résumé. The Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award has named the Fighting Irish signal-caller to its watch list.

The award is presented annually to the FBS college football player who has demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field. The award honors the type of exemplary character and commitment to community, family and teammates.

Virginia running back Mike Hollins won last year’s award.

Leonard’s teammates voted him captain in his one season with the Irish. He was also a team captain at Duke. No. 16 Notre Dame has a 3-1 record under his direction.
