How many five-star recruits did Notre Dame sign in the 2024 class?
Before answering the question in the headline of the article, the following question must also be asked, “What do you define as a five-star?”
Does the player need to be listed as such just according to one of the composite/industry rankings? Or per your preferred website? Or is it just any player who at one time or another ranked as a five-star according to one of the sites?
For the sake of this article, we’ll look at each of the four major recruiting websites’ rankings now that each of them have published their final rankings of the 2024 cycle.
On3 — Offensive tackle Guerby Lambert
When looking at the four rankings websites (On3, 247 Sports, Rivals and ESPN), his On3 national ranking of No. 18 is the highest of all the Irish signees.
On3’s rankings update Monday had West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial’s Guerby Lambert listed as a five-star prospect, the only website to do so. He’s also the No. 2 offensive tackle in the land and top player from his home state of Massachusetts.
Each website lists Lambert as a top-100 overall player. His lowest ranking comes from ESPN, which has him as the No. 94 player and No. 9 offensive tackle in the country.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies — Lambert is listed as the No. 42 overall player and No. 4 offensive tackle in the land.
The On3 Industry Ranking weights the primary recruiting media services based on past performance data, and overall scouting and recruiting coverage investment. For football, the algorithm is weighted as follows: On3 (35%), 247Sports (35%), Rivals.com (20%) and ESPN (10%).
Rivals — Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
Rivals ranked Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa as a five-star headed into the All-American Bowl, and he kept that status following a strong week in San Antonio.
He’s the nation’s No. 19 overall prospect and No. 2 linebacker per Rivals, plus the No. 2 prospect from the Golden State.

On3 ranks him lowest at No. 83 overall and No. 6 at the linebacker position in the country. He’s a top-100 prospect across the board.
Viliamu-Asa had a monster senior season in 2023, posting 114 tackles (56 solo), 13 tackles for loss, 3 pass breakups, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception.
247 Sports — Defensive end Bryce Young
In 247 Sports’ final rankings update, it gave five-star status to one Irish signee — Charlotte (N.C.) Christian’s Bryce Young. It has Young as the No. 24 overall player and No. 6 EDGE in America.
There’s quite the differing opinions on Young, with 247 having him as a five-star and Rivals listing him as low as No. 220 overall and No. 11 in their weak side defensive end rankings.
On3 has Young as a borderline five-star as the No. 42 overall prospect and No. 7 EDGE in the land. ESPN also has him as a top-100 recruit in America.
Young put together a strong week at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
What about the On3 Industry Ranking, 247 Composite and ESPN rankings?
The On3 Industry Ranking and 247 Composite — which are differing tools that use the various websites to make an average ranking — do not have Notre Dame with a five-star recruit. And ESPN‘s own rankings do not have the Irish with a five-star in the 2024 cycle.
ESPN’s highest-ranked Notre Dame signee is Saline (Mich.) High quarterback CJ Carr as the No. 36 overall player and No. 2 signal-caller.
