Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep, home of Notre Dame class of 2025 commit Dallas Golden, dropped their first game of the season last Friday, falling 28-14 against Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic.

Berkeley Prep returns to the gridiron tonight with their home opener against Sarasota (Fla.) Booker. Blue & Gold recruiting insider Mike Singer is making the trip down to the Orlando area to see Grubbs in action. He’ll be providing updates in a thread on the Lou Somogyi message board and periodically on his Twitter account as well.

According to data provided to On3 by the Massey Ratings, Berkeley Prep is a heavy favorite. The Buccaneers are predicted to win 42-7 and have a 70 percent chance to win the contest.

In Berkeley Prep’s season opening loss, Golden couldn’t get much going on the ground, rushing 11 times for 29 yards. The do-it-all athlete caught 6 passes for 98 yards and recorded 1 tackle.

Golden, who ranks as the No. 80 overall player and No. 9 safety in America according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, has been committed to Notre Dame since late April. He’s expected to start out playing cornerback for Notre Dame, but at the high school level, he plays all over the field on offense, defense and special teams.

Berkeley Prep started the season as the No. 19 overall team in Florida per the Massey Ratings, but after the loss in Week 1, the Buccaneers have dropped down to No. 38. The Booker Tornadoes are the No. 131 team in the Sunshine State.

What are we looking to see from Golden on Friday night?

To be honest? Total domination.

Berkeley Prep has a great chance to put up a lot of points, and Golden is the top weapon on offense. I’m not sure how much he’ll be featured defensively, but on the other side of the ball, he should be making plays on the ground and through the air.

I’ve seen Golden a couple times in practice settings before, and he’s impressed, but there’s nothing like a Friday night. And Golden should light it up.
