2025 DL Davion Dixon commits to Notre Dame football
Surprise! Miami Belen Jesuit Prep class of 2025 defensive lineman Davion Dixon has announced his commitment to Notre Dame, becoming the Irish’s first verbal in the next recruiting cycle.
Dixon is currently on campus and informed the staff of his decision Friday, shortly before announcing it on Twitter. This is Dixon’s second trip to South Bend, as he also camped for the staff last June.
“After having a talk with Coach Freeman, Coach Washington and the rest of the staff, I felt like this school has the structure, academics and football program that I was looking for all in one place,” Dixon said in a message to Blue & Gold about picking Notre Dame. “I don’t have to compromise one for another.”
The 6-foot-3, 305-pound Dixon reported his Irish scholarship offer on Feb. 8, his 18th offer. Over half of those offers are from Power Five programs, including Florida State, Florida, Michigan State, Penn State, Auburn and Nebraska.
“I was blown away when they said they were going to offer me,” Dixon told Blue & Gold after receiving the offer. “It was a dream come true.”
Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington led the charge for the Irish in Dixon’s recruiting process.
In 11 games last fall, Dixon registered 70 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 24 quarterback hurries, 10.5 sacks and five pass breakups. He also had a forced fumble and a blocked kick.
“I’m a run stopper,” said Dixon, describing his game. “I can help the secondary on third downs by pressuring the quarterback. I’m a powerful player, and that’s why Notre Dame likes me. I can bring whatever they need.”

247 Sports ranks Dixon as a three-star player, while Rivals lists him as the No. 185 overall prospect and No. 10 interior defensive lineman in the country. He does not have a ranking per On3 or the On3 Industry Ranking yet.
While the news is a surprise, Blue & Gold wrote the following about Dixon in our visit preview article: (He) loves Notre Dame from what we gather. He could be a sneaky contender for the first commit of the 2025 cycle for the Irish. He’ll get a second look at campus this weekend.
Notre Dame defensive line recruiting outlook
The Irish currently have one defensive lineman committed in the 2024 class. Princeton (N.J.) The Hun School’s Owen Wafle, the No. 403 overall player and No. 36 defensive lineman in the land. While Notre Dame is already on the board in the 2025 class on the defensive line, the staff still has a lot of work to do in the 2024 cycle. Notre Dame may take up to five total defensive linemen in the class.
Just this weekend alone, Notre Dame has crucial targets on campus in Charlotte (N.C.) Christian EDGE Bryce Young, Philadelphia Monsignor Bonner EDGE Mylachi Williams and Bryant (Ark.) High interior lineman TJ Lindsey.
There are a handful of other key names on the board to know, including Chicago St. Ignatius interior lineman Justin Scott, Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic EDGE Elijah Rushing, Katy (Texas) Paetow EDGE Loghan Thomas and Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek EDGE Cole Mullins.
