One of Notre Dame’s top targets in the 2025 class will be coming off the board very soon.

Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School safety Ethan Long announced that he’ll be making his commitment to a program on Monday, Jan. 8 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The 6-2, 185-pounder added in his social media post that he’ll be choosing between Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Penn State.

Notre Dame is considered the team to beat according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 96.6 percent. Blue & Gold logged a prediction for him to land with the Irish back on Aug. 22.

Long has visited Notre Dame four times, most of any school per his On3 visit center. He’s been to Penn State, Boston College and Ohio State three times a piece. His most recent college visit that we’re aware of was to Michigan for the Wolverines’ win against the Buckeyes in November.

He ranks as the nation’s No. 395 overall player and No. 32 safety per the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The metric also lists him as the No. 4 player from Connecticut.

On3’s own rankings list him as the No. 35 safety in America and No. 4 overall prospect from Connecticut.

Notre Dame currently has 12 commitments in the 2025 class, a group that is led by Lucedale (Miss.) George County’s Deuce Knight, the No. 37 overall player and No. 4 quarterback in America per the On3 Industry Ranking.

The Irish have one safety pledge locked in. Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange’s Ivan Taylor committed to Notre Dame Dec. 1. He ranks as the No. 72 prospect and No. 7 safety in the country per the On3 Industry Ranking.

Long recaps recent Notre Dame visit

The high school junior’s last visit to Notre Dame was for the Irish’s setback against Ohio State in September.

“It was unreal,” he said.  “It was eye-opening. Just taking it all in and, walking through the crowd and watching the walk with the players was unbelievable. The experience was amazing. The green out when they turned off all the lights in the fourth quarter. Just how into it everyone was was just unbelievable. It’s definitely a game I’m going to remember.”

Another key part of Long’s visit was interacting with other recruits. He spent much of his time hanging out with Winston-Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor 2025 safety JaDon Blair. The 6-4, 180-pound Blair, a top 200 four-star recruit, also attended the July 30 “grill & chill.”

“He and I have been going on a lot of the same visits,” Long said. “It’s kind of funny how we keep running into each other. It’s great because he’s going through the same process as me. It’s been great to talk to him kid to kid, player to player.”

Former Fighting Irish wide receiver Austin Webster is Long’s cousin, and Long grew up going to Notre Dame games when Webster played in South Bend.

Long’s high school teammate — class of 2025 offensive tackle Matty Augustine — is another huge Notre Dame target.
