Notre Dame is evaluating Philadelphia William Penn Charter class of 2026 athlete Tom McGlinchey, and if that last name piqued your interest, there’s a good reason for it.

The 6-6, 220-pounder is the younger brother of former star Notre Dame offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey, who was selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft and currently plays for the Denver Broncos.

There’s an age gap of about a dozen years between the brothers, which meant that the younger McGlinchey quite literally grew up watching Fighting Irish football.

“I got up to Notre Dame as much as I could,” McGlinchey added. “During my brother’s first couple of years I was out pretty much every weekend they were home.”

McGlinchey currently holds one scholarship offer, coming from the Duke Blue Devils. He received that good news back in January. McGlinchey has been talking with the Notre Dame staff here and there, which included him attending a prospect camp in South Bend June 10.

“My camp experience was awesome,” McGlinchey told Blue & Gold. “I really enjoyed stepping into the camp and performing my best in front of the coaches. It was really cool to hear different techniques and coaching points from the staff. That day was super cool for me. Notre Dame has been my dream school since I was 5 years old and coming back at 17 was one of the coolest moments of my life.”

He started the camp working with the quarterbacks, but the Irish landed a signal-caller commit in the 2026 class a week and half prior to the camp (Noah Grubbs). And with McGlinchey’s size and athleticism, the staff had him run routes and work out as a tight end.

“The instruction from the coaches was great,” continued McGlinchey. “From Coach [Mike] Denbrock and Coach [Harris] Bivin and me stepping into a position I have never really played before, they did an amazing job coaching me up so I could succeed. I can see why guys who play Division I football really like Notre Dame because their coaching staff sets you up for success”

It’ll be interesting to see where things go from here between Notre Dame and McGlinchey, considering that he’ll continue to play quarterback, and the Irish have interest in him as a tight end. But the two parties will most likely remain in contact moving forward.

“A Notre Dame offer would mean the world to me,” McGlinchey stated. “As I said, Notre Dame has been the school that I’ve wanted to play football at ever since I started playing football. If I was given the opportunity to play football at Notre Dame I would take it. It’s been my dream to be a golden domer my whole life.

“My family would love to see me play and get to see another family member in the blue and gold. My brother would be the most excited because he gets to see his youngest brother do exactly what he did not too long ago. If I was granted a scholarship, it would for sure be a dream come true.”
