Notre Dame football flips four-star in-state OL Cameron Herron from Iowa
Notre Dame is always working late in recruiting cycles to pull off flips, and the Irish just accomplished a notable one. Indianapolis Warren Central class of 2025 interior offensive lineman Cameron Herron announced Monday morning that he switched his commitment from Iowa to Notre Dame.
The news comes after Herron took an official visit to Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish staff have been in contact with the On3 four-star prospect the past few weeks as Herron has impressed them with his play on Friday nights.
Herron has long been on Notre Dame’s radar. He first visited back in December 2023 for a bowl practice with his high school teammate, EDGE Damien Shanklin, a former Irish target committed to LSU.
“It would be big — not only for my recruiting — but for my me and my family who are big fans of Notre Dame,” he said after that trip regarding the impact of an ND offer for him.
Herron returned the next month for the staff’s junior day, and the feeling at the time was that Notre Dame liked him a lot, but the Irish were in the lead for many of the offensive line recruits they already led for. At that point, Will Black, who now ranks as an On3 five-star player, was already committed. And two other offensive tackle prospects — Matty Augustine and Owen Strebig — committed to Notre Dame the next month. It looked as if Notre Dame was done with 2025 offensive line recruiting.
Herron’s next visit to South Bend took place in early June for Irish Invasion, and he impressed that day, but the offer didn’t come. Later that month, he committed to Iowa over Boston College, West Virginia, Northwestern, Cincinnati and Louisville.
But the plan was for Notre Dame to continue to evaluate Herron with his senior season around the corner, and that’s exactly what the staff did.

Herron has had a very strong start to his senior campaign and caught the attention of the Irish staff. He also impressed On3, which led to him being bumped from a three-star prospect to the nation’s No. 272 overall player and No. 19 interior lineman in America. According to the other three major recruiting ranking websites, Herron remains a three-star, but it’d come as little surprise if that changes.
Notre Dame offensive line coach Joe Rudolph and Co. communicated with Herron in the fall, and it’s Blue & Gold’s understanding that Rudolph stopped in at Warren Central during the Irish’s bye week.
Then, news broke a few hours from On3’s Steve Wiltfong, before the Irish kicked off against Stanford, the 6-2.5, 275-pounder was in South Bend for an official visit. And the Irish got the flip done.
Herron gives the Irish four offensive line commits and its first true interior O-lineman of the class. The Irish have 22 total verbals in their 2025 class.
