2024 CB Karson Hobbs commits to Notre Dame football
Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller class of 2024 cornerback Karson Hobbs tweeted Tuesday night that he was decommitting from South Carolina, a pledge he gave back in the summer. And on Wednesday morning, the 6-1, 180-pounder announced his new home.
He committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the school that he grew up a big fan of.
“First, I would like to thank God for putting me in the position I’m in today,” Hobbs said in his announcement. “Second, I’d like to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for helping me get to where I am today. I’d also like to thank all the coaches who took the time to recruit me and make me feel welcome at their program.
“Today I have decided that I will be furthering my academic and Division I football career at the University of Notre Dame. Go Irish.”
Hobbs picked up his offer from Notre Dame in September while visiting for the Cal game, and he made it back to South Bend this past weekend to watch the the Irish upset Clemson. As someone who grew up a diehard Irish fan, it was the perfect game for him to watch.
“That was the craziest college football game I’ve ever been to, especially with it being a night game,” he said. “It was awesome with that true freshman Ben Morrison having two picks.
“It was crazy. You look all over the stadium and there’s green pom poms flying everywhere. It was loud and you could really feel the energy. I loved it.”

Hobbs admitted to Blue & Gold after the visit that Notre Dame was recruiting him harder than South Carolina was. With him being a Midwest kid who grew up an Irish fan, it seemed like just a matter of time before he would end up committing to the Irish.

And Hobbs didn’t waste much time.
“The message from Coach [Mike] Mickens was the opportunity to come play ball, and if I compete, I could play as a true freshman,” Hobbs continued. “They’re four hours away from home, which isn’t too far. They’re letting me know that I’m wanted and always wanted there.
“My dad is a Notre Dame fan, too. He’s wanted me to go there. It’s my dream school, too.”
Hobbs is the No. 512 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 52 cornerback in the land and No. 19 player from his home state of Ohio.
