Notre Dame offers 2023 Pittsburgh quarterback commit Kenny Minchey
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish staff extended an offer to Hendersonville (Tenn.) Pope John Paul II class of 2023 quarterback and Pittsburgh commit Kenny Minchey, the four-star prospect announced Saturday.
Minchey, who ranks as the No. 393 and No. 21 quarterback nationally according to the On3 Consensus, committed to Pittsburgh April 30. His offer from the Irish is the first he’s announced since making his Panthers’ pledge.
On3’s own rankings list Minchey as the No. 276 overall player and No. 14 quarterback in America. On3 has him as the No. 4 prospect from his home state of Tennessee.
In 13 games played last fall, Minchey completed 215 of 351 passes for 3,280 yards and 32 touchdowns. On the ground, he added 137 yards and three more scores.
Minchey is from the same high school that produced former Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate.
Notre Dame was not able to land a pledge from top target Detroit Martin Luther King passer Dante Moore, who committed to Oregon July 8. The Irish then turned their attention to Dripping Springs (Texas) High’s Austin Novosad, who has been committed to Baylor since last December. Novosad was on Notre Dame’s campus Tuesday and discussed his experience with Blue & Gold. Novosad’s visit plans this weekend were for Baylor and Texas A&M.

Minchey was a standout performer at the 2022 Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles at the end of June, according to On3’s Charles Power.
“Minchey had a good three days at the Elite 11 Finals,” Power wrote. “He was a Top Performer on day two with one of the better pro day workouts and showed good zip on his throws throughout the week. Minchey has a compact, powerful build and was able to drive the ball out to the boundary and middle of the field with little strain.
“He was solid, but not spectacular in 7-on-7 on Thursday, with On3 charting him on target for 10 of 18 passes with one touchdown, one interception and a sack. The four-star signal caller showed one of the more well-rounded passing skill sets on hand and had a solid week, in our opinion.”
Minchey On3 scouting report
“Polished, consistent passer with feel for the game. Has a compact build at 6-foot-1, 201 pounds with a 10-inch hand. Tests as a good athlete for the position, running a 4.78 second 40-yard dash, a 4.32 second shuttle and jumping 37 inches in the vertical prior to his senior season. Completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 3,280 yards and 32 touchdowns against 9 picks as a junior. A steady, consistent passer on both Friday nights and in the camp setting. Able to replicate throws from different platforms and in the face of pressure. Negotiates space in the pocket well and shows a good feel for the pass rush. Arm strength looks to be better in the camp setting than at times on Friday nights. Can continue making more plays with his legs. Longer back stroke within his throwing motion that can show up in game settings. Will not wow you with his physical tools relative to other blue-chip quarterbacks, but presents a well-rounded skill set, particularly as a passer.”
