On300 four-star WR Mason James includes Notre Dame football in top 10

Despite being the most recent school to offer him, four-star wide receiver Mason James from Norman (Okla.) Norman North included the Notre Dame football program in his top 10 on Wednesday. On3 national recruiting reporter Hayes Fawcett reported the news.
The 6-foot, 160-pound James is down to the Fighting Irish, Arizona State, Florida, Kansas State, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Washington. In total, 30 schools have offered James, who ranks as the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 213 overall player and No. 36 wide receiver in the 2026 class. Notre Dame wide receivers coach Mike Brown offered him on Feb. 6.
James, also the No. 1 player in Oklahoma, plays his high school football four miles away from Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. He has reported at least eight unofficial visits to OU’s campus, too.

Though he has also reported unofficial visits to Alabama, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Miami, Nebraska, California, Stanford, Kansas, Baylor, Michigan State and Oklahoma State, they did not make his top 10. Oregon, Penn State, Arkansas, SMU, Arizona and BYU also missed the cut.
Last football, James verified his status as one of the nation’s top football recruits. He posted 56 receptions for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns during his 12-game junior season. The Timberwolves finished with a 4-8 record.

If the Irish were to sign James, it would mark a monumental recruiting victory for coach Marcus Freeman’s program. In the internet recruiting era — which dates back to 2002 — the Irish have only signed two players from the Sooner State: Oklahoma City Classen School wide receiver George West in 2006 and Tulsa Union offensive tackle Matt Romine in 2007.
In the 2025 class, Notre Dame held a verbal commitment from Washington (Okla.) High four-star tight end Nate Roberts. However, Roberts ended up backing off his June 17, 2023, pledge two months later. He eventually signed with Ohio State.
The Irish also targeted Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert four-star cornerback Trystan Haynes in 2025. The 6-2, 160-pound Haynes trended toward Notre Dame in the spring. But the Irish ended up signing top-150 four-star cornerbacks Dallas Golden and Mark Zackery IV.
Notre Dame has one 2026 class commit in Boca Raton (Fla.) Saint Andrew’s School three-star wide receiver Dylan Faison. The younger brother of Irish rising junior wide receiver Jordan Faison, Dylan, is the No. 517 overall player, No. 84 wide receiver nationally and No. 78 player in Florida in 2026.
