During Monday’s Pot of Gold Day, Notre Dame will offer scholarships to current and future elite 2027 class prospects. And a member of the former just announced his offer from the Fighting Irish.

On3’s No. 2 overall player in 2027, Myson Johnson-Cook, has added Notre Dame to his highly competitive offer sheet. The 6-foot-1½, 220-pound junior at DeSoto (Texas) High is also the No. 1 athlete nationally and the No. 1 player in the Lone Star State. The Irish plan to recruit him as a running back.

In addition to the Irish, Johnson-Cook has offers from 29 other Power Four programs. Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Oregon, Penn State, Southern Cal, Tennesse and Texas A&M are among them. New Notre Dame running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider offered Johnson-Cook in October 2023 while at PSU.

That offer occurred during Johnson-Cook’s freshman All-America season at Decatur (Ill.) MacArthur. In his first high school season, he racked up 1,343 yards and 20 touchdowns on 94 carries (14.3 yards per carry). MacArthur played in Illinois Class 5A, four spots below the highest classification.

Johnson-Cook initially transferred to Katy (Texas) High, near Houston. However, he eventually ended up 255 miles north in DeSoto, right outside Fort Worth. In his first season playing in the Lone Star State, he rushed for 911 yards and 14 touchdowns on 88 carries (10.4 yards per carry). He also had 4 catches for 27 yards and another score.

Johnson-Cook split time in the backfield with Texas A&M 2025 class three-star running back signee Deondrae Riden. The three-star Riden was the No. 468 overall player, No. 41 running back in America and No. 65 player in Texas in 2026, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

In the 2027 On3 Industry Ranking, Johnson-Cook is the No. 8 overall player, No. 2 “athlete” in the country and No. 1 recruit in Texas.

Since 2008, Notre Dame has offered five other prospects at DeSoto. Wide receiver Johntay Cook II, offensive lineman Curtis Riser and defensive back Adrian White ended up at Texas, running back Dontre Wilson went to Ohio State and running back Cyrus Gray signed with Texas A&M.

Still, the Irish have recently successfully signed running backs from the Lone Star State. In 2022, they added Denison four-star Jadarian Price, the No. 34 recruit in Texas and No. 13 running back nationally. Then, in 2024, they inked Lufkin four-star Kedren Young. He was the No. 9 running back in the country and No. 19 recruit in Texas.

Seider did not offer Price or Young but will look to make another move with Johnson-Cook.
