Detroit Martin Luther King five-star quarterback Dante Moore committed to Oregon last Friday, and Notre Dame has turned the page to a new target.

Moore was the Irish’s top priority at the position for quite some time but lost out on him to the Ducks. The other six quarterback recruits Notre Dame had offered have all committed elsewhere as well, and the Irish sent out a new offer Monday evening to Dripping Springs (Texas) High’s Austin Novosad.

Standing at 6-3, 185 pounds, Novosad ranks as the No. 264 overall prospect and No. 14 quarterback according to the 2023 On3 Consensus.

He had a huge junior season, tossing 40 touchdowns with nine interceptions to go along with 3,399 yards on 208 of 327 attempts in 11 games. Through two seasons and 19 total contests, Novosad has thrown for 75 touchdowns with 13 interceptions.

Novosad committed to Baylor last December and is being pursued by Ohio State and Texas A&M — the latter school is where his parents attended college. It’s been a battle between the three programs as Novosad has wanted to make a final decision and shut down his recruitment soon, but Notre Dame is looking to make a late dent in his recruitment.

Novosad shined at the Elite 11 Finals a couple weeks ago. On3’s Charles Power gave him the “Best Mechanics” superlative after seeing him live for a couple days.

“It was apparent Austin Novosad was one of the more mechanically sound passers as early as the first workout,” Power wrote. “Novosad is a clean, pure thrower. There was very little variance in his throws. The ball came out of his hand cleanly all three days. The Dripping Springs (Texas) High passer threw arguably the tightest spiral of the group. Others may be more powerful or twitchy at this stage, but Novosad looked like a pure, natural passer.”

On3’s Sam Spiegelman raved about Novosad from the event, naming him the sixth-best quarterback at the Elite 11.

“Another major stock-up candidate after the Elite 11 Finals is Novosad, the On3 Consensus four-star quarterback committed to Baylor,” wrote Spiegelman. “Novosad was consistently sharp with great touch on his passes downfield and some torque on his throws underneath. He’s a reactive passer and quick to distribute the ball with excellent velocity, especially on his intermediate throws, and he’s not shy about firing into traffic. The Lone Star State standout was a top performer at each of the respective events. The arrow pointing is certainly pointing up after the week in Los Angeles.”

Notre Dame currently has 19 commitments in the 2023 class, a group that ranks No. 2 according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting rankings.
