Pot of Gold Day: Notre Dame offers Fighting Irish legacy, elite 2027 WR Julius Jones Jr.

As the title of this article states, Notre Dame has offered a legacy prospect, who just happens to be one of the nation’s top recruits in the 2027 class as well.
That prospect is Julius Jones Jr. — son of former Notre Dame running back Julius Jones Sr. (1999-2001, 2003) — who ranks as a four-star prospect per Rivals and 247 Sports. On3 has yet to rank the 5-11, 160-pounder.
The rising junior earned his offer from the Fighting Irish on Pot of Gold Day, which is the Notre Dame staff’s annual recruiting initiative where they really get things started in the rising junior class, offering a few dozen players. The Irish started doing this back in 2022, and it has remained an important tradition.
Notre Dame joins Florida, LSU, Miami, Penn State, Auburn, Texas A&M, Florida State, Ohio State and many others on Jones’ offer sheet. He told Blue & Gold that he’s fired up about adding the scholarship from Notre Dame.
Jones hasn’t been to Notre Dame on a recruiting trip yet, but he did get to see the Fighting Irish knock off Penn State in the Orange Bowl in a thriller.

“They’re a primetime team,” Jones recently told On’s Chad Simmons about Notre Dame. “They play in primetime every week. I like the history of Notre Dame and everything they have going for them. It’s really one of a kind and you can’t get it anywhere else, so getting the opportunity to go there is something great.”
Jones already knows what matters most to him in a school.
“I love all these big schools and seeing what they do and seeing what they are,” Jones said. “I want to go somewhere where I feel not just wanted, but also needed. I want to come in and make an impact right when I get there and do what I have to do to put myself on the map. Also, I want to go somewhere that’s a football school, where they have great talent and you can feel all the love from the fans every time you step on the field.”
247 Sports lists Jones as the No. 41 overall player and No. 7 wide receiver in America, while he’s Rivals’ No. 13 prospect and No. 1 pass catcher in the land.
The elder Jones was tremendous at Notre Dame, playing in 45 career contests and rushing for 3,018 yards and 27 career touchdowns. The Dallas Cowboys selected him in the 2nd round of the 2004 NFL Draft and had a highly productive career professionally. He carried the rock 1,280 times for 5,068 yards with 22 rushing touchdowns and a couple receiving scores. Jones spent seven season in the NFL.
