Earlier this month, Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South receiver and class of 2024 Notre Dame wide receiver commit Cam Williams was a guest on the Notre Dame football YouTube show presented by Blue & Gold with co-hosts Mike Singer and Tim Hyde.

Below is a transcription of the Q&A with Williams, who ranks as the No. 37 overall player and No. 10 wide receiver according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. The video is embedded below, and the interview begins at the 44:30 mark.

Mike: “You attended the On3 NIL event in May. On3 sent out invites to top recruits to attend and learn about NIL. Livvy Dunne, the LSU gymnast, was a speaker, and Kirk Herbstreit was as well. What was that event all about?

Cam: “Their whole point was for highly-looked at guys to come out and get a basis of what this whole NIL thing is going on now. We learned what you want to go into when you’re signing things, don’t sign everything you see, the basic stuff. There were speakers and different companies there. There was a guy there from Mizuno. The speakers were really interesting; they gave us good advice. It was pretty cool.”

Mike: “I heard that you the guy. Kids gravitate towards you, and everyone loves talking to Cam Williams.

Cam: “I made some friends there. Most guys there have been on visits together. I committed early, so I didn’t know many of the guys. But I got to know some people, which is always good.”

Tim: “What’s coach looking to do with you this year? Any new wrinkles for you as you get ready to blast off in your senior season?

Cam: “Half of my highlights will be at free safety. I’m playing that this year, and it’s been fun playing it this summer. I have no issue doing that. You have to do what you do to win. This year, we have no more than like 10 seniors. We might have four starters returning from last year. We’re a young team, but we always seem to get the job done. I’ll be on the field most of the game, which I’m not used to. It’ll be good conditioning, though.”

Tim: “Are they trying you at any other positions because the team is so young? Will the offense be built around you?

Cam: “We know based on last year how teams will play, whether it’s bracketing me or looking at me the entire play. So we have new wrinkles this year to have me moving everywhere. Defenses can’t key me at the same spot. I’ll be moving everywhere.”

Mike: I remember texting you a couple months ago and asked you who the fastest Notre Dame commit was. And you said a couple guys, but you didn’t mention yourself. You’re very humble.

Cam: “Maybe I’m up there, but what I heard from Chad [Bowden] is that Loghan Thomas is a freak athlete, which I believe.”

Mike: “Well I asked some people, and they said it was you! Are you a big track guy at your high school?”

Cam: “No. I feel like I run faster with all those pads on the turf than I do without them on on the track. I don’t feel like I’m moving in track like I do on the field.”

Mike: “I wanted to ask you about your visit to Notre Dame at the end of July. You’ve visited there so many times, but the ‘Grill and Chill’ sums up what you guys did. You did grill, and you did chill. Have you ever done a visit like that before? Even the Grill and Chill last year was different.

Cam: “Last year, the [Notre Dame] players were there, but this year, it was totally different. We were walking around campus and had all sorts of games. It was a lot of fun. We played dodgeball in the stadium. I didn’t think I’d be playing dodgeball at the 50-yard line. And then we had the grilling, and my team did not win that unfortunately. I did think we had the best steak, though.”

Mike: Did you get to know some new recruits?

Cam: “I got to talk to Ethan Long and his family a lot. He’s a good kid and looks the part. I talked to Talyn Taylor a lot, especially with him being in the region. And obviously Jerome [Bettis Jr.]. I got to be around some of the receivers. It’d be great to have all three of those guys [at Notre Dame]. I’m really excited to see what Coach Stuckey can do for Notre Dame past my class.”
