Lucedale (Miss.) George County class of 2025 quarterback Deuce Knight informed Blue & Gold Friday morning that he’ll be at Notre Dame’s pivotal matchup against Ohio State Sept. 23. It will be his third trip to South Bend, as he was on campus in April and July as well.

The Notre Dame staff offered Knight back in March for Pot of Gold day and has prioritized the 6-4.5, 180-pound four-star passer since. But much of the talk in the past couple weeks in 2025 Irish quarterback recruiting has surrounded Murrieta (Calif.) Valley’s Bear Bachmeier — the No. 111 overall recruit and No. 9 quarterback according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking — who is visiting campus this weekend.

Bachmeier and Knight are the top two quarterbacks on Notre Dame’s board, and it appears to be a first-come, first-served situation as to which will signal-caller will take the Irish’s spot as the 2025 commit at the position. Knight visiting for the Ohio State game certainly makes an already very interesting situation even more intriguiing.

Knight ranks as the No. 39 overall player and No. 3 quarterback nationally per the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s own rankings list Knight as the No. 28 overall player and No. 4 quarterback in America.

Over the summer, Knight transferred to Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy and played for the powerhouse team for a couple weeks before transferring back to George County about a week or two ago.

Following Lipscomb’s 35-10 loss against Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy in August, reporters at the game swarmed Knight to get the latest on his recruiting process.

“I think the same teams (are communicating the most), really,” Knight said after the game. “Tennessee, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Auburn, Alabama. Georgia has been on me heavily lately. Penn State has been on me heavily. They haven’t offered yet, but I think they are going to.”

Knight added that he’s nearing a decision as well.

“I think I’ll have a decision in the next month or two,” said Knight. “I want to knock it out and start recruiting for my class.”

Ole Miss, Tennessee and Notre Dame are considered the top three schools in his recruitment, respectively, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

“Location doesn’t matter to me and it is Notre Dame, one of the best in the country on the football and school side,” Knight said. “Notre Dame is an independent program, but they play top teams, they play big games and Notre Dame is still going to play in the college football playoffs. I like Notre Dame because of what they are as a program and because of the people up there. Coach [Marcus] Freeman, Coach Gino Guidugli and Chad Bowden all recruit me and they are great guys.”
