Notre Dame a top eight school for key WR target Taeshaun Lyons
Hayward (Calif.) Tennyson class of 2023 wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons narrowed his recruitment down to eight schools on Wednesday afternoon.
Notre Dame, Washington, Utah, Penn State, Miami, Oregon, Michigan State and Arizona State made the cut for the four-star pass catcher.
Lyons has taken two official visits thus far; he saw Washington over the summer and made it out to Notre Dame in September.
Lyons ranks as the nation’s No. 317 overall player and No. 41 wide receiver according to the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Per On3’s own rankings, Lyons is listed as the No. 129 overall prospect and No. 19 wide receiver in the land.
Lyons discusses Notre Dame official visit
The Fighting Irish staff hosted the four-star talent on campus when their squad knocked off Cal last month for an official visit, which Lyons reviewed with Blue & Gold.
“I liked the visit; it was really good,” he said. “The people, the coaches, the whole atmosphere — everything stood out. The fans are so passionate, and that blew me away. You don’t get fan bases out here that are that passionate; that’s not something you see a lot.”

The Notre Dame staff made it clear to him how much Lyons was wanted in their offense.
“The main thing was how much they need me and to want to come be great,” Lyons explained. “Of course, they already have three receivers coming in my class, and that’s not something I was necessarily worried about, but there was a thought of, ‘Why go there and be a fourth receiver when I can go somewhere else and be undoubtedly the best guy in the class?’
“What they were telling me was I wouldn’t just be the fourth receiver coming in. It’s a whole group, and we’d be a whole monster together. They were telling me how other the other big schools all have four- and five-star receivers. You have to compete against the best — iron sharpens iron.”
After the official visit, Lyons told Blue & Gold that he planned on posting a top eight schools list. He followed that plan. He also mentioned that he’d like to commit at the end of the month. Will he follow suit there as well? Time will tell.
“The time to commit is getting closer and closer,” he previously said. “I plan on committing in the next month. If I’m not ready, then I won’t do it, but that’s the timeframe I want to do it. The plan is around late October, the 27th or 28th.”
