Recruiting notebook: 2023 legacy tight end Henry Garrity commits to Notre Dame as a PWO
Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) Brother Rice tight end Henry Garrity announced on Saturday afternoon that he would be taking his talents to play in South Bend, just like his father did close to 30 years ago.
Garrity, a class of 2023 tight end, held offers from FBS programs such as Air Force, Army, Central Michigan, UConn, Eastern Michigan and Navy. But he opted to go the preferred walk-on route and commit to the Fighting Irish. The 6-4, 205-pounder picked up his PWO offer from Notre Dame after performing at the staff’s Irish Invasion camp in June.
“Thank you Coach [Marcus] Freeman, Coach [Gerad] Parker and the entire Notre Dame coaching staff for the opportunity to live out my dream,” Garrity said as part of his announcement. “I’m excited to announce that I’ll be continuing my academic and athletic career as a preferred walk-on at the University of Notre Dame.”
His father, Pat, played basketball for the Irish from 1994-98. The elder Garrity was a double-figure scorer in all four seasons at Notre Dame and averaged 23.2 points per game as a senior. The 6-9 forward was the Big East Player of the Year in 1997 and a consensus second-team All-American in 1998. The Milwaukee Bucks made him the No. 19 overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft. They traded his draft rights to the Dallas Mavericks before his rookie season, though, and the Mavericks quickly dealt his rights to the Phoenix Suns.

Peyton Bowen scores TD in front of Marcus Freeman
Blue & Gold was in Denton, Texas Friday night to get a look at Notre Dame five-star safety commit Peyton Bowen and his younger brother, Eli, a class of 2024 cornerback target for the Irish.
Their Guyer High squad won 56-7. The Bowen brothers totaled a few tackles; the opposing team’s passing attack didn’t offer much of a threat, so Eli and Peyton didn’t get too involved there. However, the other team had no problem punting to Peyton, and the five-star recruit took one back to the house — in front of Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and safeties coach Chris O’Leary.

Dylan Edwards shines in blowout win
Derby (Kan.) High class of 2023 running back and Notre Dame commit Dylan Edwards ran wild on Friday night. His team led 49-13 at halftime, and Edwards scored five of the touchdowns himself. In total, he ran for 150 on the night, on his team’s way to winning 70-13.
In the first four games of the fall, Edwards totaled 554 rushing yards and eight scores. He’s the defending Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Kansas, and he’d love to make it back-to-back seasons with that honor.
