Notre Dame four-star safety offeree Malcolm Ziglar sets commitment date

Less than seven hours after the Fighting Irish received a verbal commitment from 2024 three-star safety Taebron Bennie-Powell, another rising senior safety with a Notre Dame offer, Malcolm Ziglar, has set a commitment date.

Ziglar, a four-star recruit from Fuquay-Varina (N.C.) High, announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he would reveal his college decision on July 17 at 1 p.m. EDT. The 6-foot-1 ½, 195-pound Ziglar is just a few days removed after a Notre Dame official visit, his first trip to South Bend.

Ziglar also officially visited South Carolina the weekend of June 10. He will go to North Carolina on an official visit scheduled to begin Friday. He’s been to both schools previously on unofficial visits.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ziglar told Blue & Gold’s Mike Singer he neared a decision.

“I plan on committing sometime in July,” Ziglar said. “I’ll take my visit, and it’ll be my last official visit for the year.”

Upon announcing his commitment date, Ziglar reaffirmed his top eight schools, which are Notre Dame, North Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson, Kentucky, Penn State, Appalachian State and East Carolina.

On May 16, Irish safeties coach Chris O’Leary offered Ziglar a scholarship after visiting his high school on April 27. He also reports nine other Power Five scholarship offers.

The On3 Industry Ranking — proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — considers Ziglar the No. 253 overall player, No. 20 safety and No. 7 prospect in North Carolina. He has a 90.66 rating.
