Notre Dame expands quarterback recruiting board, offers 2026 passer Troy Huhn

On Wednesday, Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli added a seventh name to the program’s 2026 QB board. San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills passer Troy Huhn is the latest signal-caller to report a scholarship offer from the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame typically waits until its Pot of Gold Day recruiting event to offer high school sophomores. However, with 2025 quarterback Deuce Knight already in the fold, Guidugli has started publicizing the program’s target signal callers before March 17. Knight, the No. 40 overall player and No. 5 quarterback in 2025, committed to the Irish on Sept. 18.

Before Huhn’s offer Wednesday, Guidugli previously offered Jared CurtisBrady SmigielBrady HartWill GriffinNoah Grubbs and Ryder Lyons. Nashville (Tenn.) Christian School’s Curtis is the only prospect with an On3 Industry Ranking rating. He’s the No. 12 overall player and No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 cycle.

Each 2026 quarterback Guidugli has offered is over 6-foot-2. Guidugli and Irish offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock visited the 6-3, 195-pound Huhn at his school during the NCAA January recruiting contact period.

While Huhn does not yet hold an On3 or On3 Industry Ranking rating, he does have 15 “Core Four” (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC) offers. Among them, he has visited Texas, UCLA, Arizona State, UCF and LSU. He’s also been to Florida and TCU, but those schools have not offered him yet.

According to MaxPreps, Huhn completed 133-223 (59.6%) passes for 1,623 yards, 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 12 games. The Mission Hills Grizzlies finished with a 9-4 record and lost 13-0 to San Diego St. Augustine in the CIF San Diego Section Football Championship.

Notre Dame has had past success recruiting quarterbacks from California. Since 2007, the Irish have signed five-star prospects Jimmy Clausen (Westlake Village) and Dayne Crist (Sherman Oaks). The program’s all-time wins leader, Ian Book, is also from El Dorado Hills, Calif.

The last signal-caller the Irish signed from The Golden State was four-star recruit Tyler Buchner out of La Mesa, Calif. After two seasons with the Irish, Buchner transferred to Alabama. Now, he’s a Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team member.

Notre Dame is starting to make progress in recruiting 2026 QBs. On Jan. 20, the Irish hosted Newbury Park (Calif.) High’s Smigiel for a junior day visit. Lake Mary (Fla.) High’s Grubbs visited Notre Dame for the Ohio State game on Sept. 23 and Evaluation Camp I on June 15. Cocoa (Fla.) High’s Hart is scheduled to make a trip to South Bend in April.

Although it is not finalized, Huhn is also eyeing a Notre Dame visit in the spring. It would be his ninth unofficial college recruiting visit.
