Notre Dame football schedules home-and-home with Texas in 2028, 2029
The Notre Dame football program and Texas Longhorns might not have to cross paths in the College Football Playoff to face each other again.
On Tuesday, the Fighting Irish announced they will take on the Longhorns in 2028 and 2029. First, Notre Dame will host Texas on Sept. 9, 2028. Then, the Irish will head to Austin on Sept. 22, 2029.
Unless the two storied college football teams see each other in the postseason within the next four years, it will be the first time Notre Dame and Texas have played since their consecutive meetings in 2015 and 2016. The Longhorns won the last one in double overtime, 50-47, in the 2016 season opener.
The Irish hold an all-time 9-3 record against the Longhorns in the series, which dates back to 1913. Their last home-and-home is the only time they’ve squared off in the 21st century. Notre Dame is 3-1 at home, 4-1 on the road and 2-1 record in neutral sites games against Texas.
Notre Dame and Texas are alive in this season’s College Football Playoff, with two regular season games left for each team. Where the Irish and Longhorns stand in the latest CFP rankings will be revealed on Tuesday night. In the latest AP Poll, Texas is No. 3, and Notre Dame is No. 6.
The Irish are 49-26 all-time against SEC opponents. On Aug. 31, Notre Dame defeated Texas A&M, 23-13, in College Station — its last matchup with an SEC school. The Irish will host the Aggies next season on Sept. 13 and also travel to Arkansas on Sept. 27.
Notre Dame also has future games set with Arkansas (2028), Alabama (2029 and 2030) and Florida (2031 and 2032).
