WATCH: Discussing Notre Dame in the Sun Bowl, new receivers coach and more
In an impromptu YouTube live show, Blue & Gold’s Kyle Kelly and Mike Singer discuss and react to the some major news in the world of Notre Dame football.
Reports surfaced on Sunday evening that Notre Dame would be hiring Wisconsin wide receivers coach Mike Brown to the same position. The guys discussed that, plus the outgoing transfers and potential incoming players for the Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame got the news of its bowl game Sunday evening as well. The Irish will be facing Oregon State Dec. 29 in the Sun Bowl. What do Kelly and Singer make of this news?

Notre Dame to hire Wisconsin’s Mike Brown as wide receivers coach
It took Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman less than a week to find his wide receivers coach replacement for the fired Chansi Stuckey. Freeman has zeroed in on Wisconsin’s Mike Brown according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports. Blue & Gold confirmed his report.

Freeman and Brown worked together at Cincinnati. Brown was the wide receivers coach there from 2019-22 before he followed Luke Fickell to Wisconsin this past offseason. He took on the title of passing game coordinator to go along with wide receivers coach in his last year at Cincinnati. He was named associate head coach of the Badgers in his one year with them.
Brown, 34, started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan in 2016. He was a GA at Delaware in 2017. He spent one year as the running backs coach at Liberty in 2019 before getting with the Bearcats. Freeman had already been at Cincinnati for two seasons before Brown arrived. The two overlapped on Fickell’s staff for two seasons before Freeman took the defensive coordinator job at Notre Dame.
A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, Brown played quarterback at Liberty from 2008-11. He was a two-time Big South Offensive Player of the Year and a three-time Big South All-Conference team member. As a senior, Brow had 2,664 passing yards and 18 touchdowns as well as 437 rushing yards and 9 rushing touchdowns. Brown finished his career with 6,072 passing yards, 45 passing touchdowns, 1,875 rushing yards, 29 rushing touchdowns. He ranked second in school history with 7,947 total offensive yards at the time of his graduation.
