Newsstand: Tim Hyde’s reflections after Notre Dame vs. Ohio State rewatch
Blue & Gold football analyst Tim Hyde gave Notre Dame’s 21-10 loss against Ohio State a rewatch and discussed positives from the game, areas of improvement and he notion that the Irish wore down against the Buckeyes.
Hyde made sure to spotlight Irish quarterback Tyler Buchner and how the sophomore took care of the football.
“No turnovers,” Hyde said. “You’re going into Columbus for your first start since your junior year of high school, and he comes away with no turnovers. That’s a positive. He has to come out of there feeling good — ‘put more on me’ and let’s move forward. I was really, really pleased with Tyler Buchner.”
And in terms of an area of improvement, Hyde discussed Al Washington‘s unit. Heading into the top-five showdown, Hyde said that if Notre Dame was to beat Ohio State, then the defensive line would be the talk of the town. They didn’t have the outing that Hyde and Notre Dame fans were hoping for, though.

“Where was the defensive line? That was frustrating, but in my rewatch, I think that had more to do with Ohio State,” Hyde explained. “Their offensive line was really good and played with a lot of attitude … The Notre Dame defensive line did not get off blocks and get tackles for loss … There was only one sack; this defensive line needs to take ownership and dominate games moving forward.”

“I was pleased. For a second-year guy in his first collegiate start in that type of environment, that type of game, I was really pleased. At one point in the first half, Tyler was 8-of-8 and 8-of-10 in the first half. That’s really good.”
