Before Notre Dame football’s College Football Playoff game against Indiana on Friday night, On3 college sports business and transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos reported former Fighting Irish junior cornerback Jaden Mickey signed with California.

A product of Corona (Calif.) Centennial, Mickey entered the transfer portal Oct. 1 after stepping away from the team Sept. 23. He has two more years of eligibility after redshirting this season.

The 6-foot, 182-pound Mickey played 28 games throughout his Notre Dame career, including three starts. He amassed 23 tackles (17 solo), 3 pass breakups and 1 interception.

Mickey joins former Irish defensive lineman Aidan Keanaaina and wide receiver Tobias Merriweather by deciding to play for the Bears. Another former Notre Dame defensive lineman, Tyson Ford, verbally committed to play for Cal earlier this month.

Notre Dame Quote of the Weekend

“They must not have been cold because, as I told you, there’s no such thing as cold, tough guys. They better not have been cold. They’d better not have been out there shivering. I’m glad they put some clothes on for the game.

— Irish coach Marcus Freeman on the Notre Dame wide receivers warming up before the Indiana game without shirts.
