Transfer portal: Wake Forest graduate WR Jahmal Banks to visit Notre Dame
Former Wake Forest wide receiver Jahmal Banks will officially visit Notre Dame this weekend, a source and Banks himself informed Blue & Gold Thursday.
Banks entered the NCAA Transfer Portal Dec. 8, and reports out of Madison are that Banks took a midweek visit to see the Wisconsin Badgers. And his next trip will be a trip to South Bend, which will begin on Friday.
He is coming off a season where he caught 59 passes for 653 yards with 4 touchdowns. He hauled in 5 passes for 35 yards on the road in a blowout loss against Notre Dame in November. He led the Demon Deacons in both receptions and receiving yards on the season.
Banks was a favorite target of former Wake Forest quarterback and Notre Dame’s starting passer in 2023, Sam Hartman, back in the 2022 season. The Washington, D.C. native hauled in 42 passes for 636 yards with 9 touchdowns a year ago. His nine receiving scores was tied for the sixth most in Wake Forest history and the fourth highest total in the Dave Clawson Era.
Banks has played in more than four games in each of his four college football seasons. The 2024 season will take advantage of the extra year of eligibility that was granted by the NCAA due to the 2020 season that was plagued due to COVID-19. Banks technically still has a redshirt year available, but for all intents and purposes, 2024 will be his final season of college football.
Notre Dame currently has two transfer portal wide receiver commitments, coming from former Florida International pass catcher Kris Mitchell and ex-Clemson wideout Beaux Collins. The Irish are looking to get to three portal receivers with Banks on the wish list to join Mitchell and Collins.
