Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South class of 2024 wide receiver and Notre Dame commit Cam Williams had five-star status attached to his name on Thursday.

247 Sports updated its 2024 recruiting rankings, and although Williams moved up just five spots in the national list, it was enough to raise his spot in the On3 Industry Ranking to have him become a five-star prospect.

Williams is the nation’s No. 26 overall prospect and No. 8 wide receiver according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

The On3 Industry Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. The On3 Industry Ranking is the industry’s most advanced, complete and unbiased measurement. For football, the algorithm is weighted as follows: On3 (35%), 247Sports (35%), Rivals.com (20%) and ESPN (10%).

On3’s own rankings have Williams as the No. 27 prospect and No. 5 wide receiver in America. This is the highest ranking among the individual websites. Each of the other websites have Williams as the No. 10 receiver in the land and between No. 46-51 in the national rankings.

Williams, who stands at 6-2, 196 pounds, committed to Notre Dame last summer over Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Missouri and many others.

If Williams’ current spot holds, he will be the highest-ranked player the Irish have signed in terms of national rankings since Jaylon Smith back in the 2013 cycle.

On3 updated its 2024 rankings last month, and Williams moved from No. 35 to No. 27 in the national spots.

“I absolutely love what Cam Williams has done early on in his senior season,” On3 director of scouting and recruiting Charles Power said. “The 2024 group of receivers is one of the best I’ve ever seen at the top with five-star type prospects at the position. And going through that group, it was hard not to move Williams up. He’s the highest-ranked four-star receiver currently.

“I love watching him play. He’s a high-effort, high-energy, physical receiver who finds a way to impact the game. When we watch these blue-chip prospects, we want to see how they effect the game, and Cam Williams dominates in every facet. He’s a major threat with the ball in his hands. He separates vertically with ease and every time he has the ball, he’s liable to score. He’s dynamic as a return man, can take end arounds and is also playing defense. His effort level doesn’t drop.

“Notre Dame fans have to be extremely excited about getting Cam Williams. In my opinion, you have to go back a long ways to find a receiver prospect that’s more talented. There’s a lot to like about Cam Williams.”
