Newsstand: Notre Dame hockey team secures home ice for Big Ten quarterfinal
The Notre Dame hockey team will begin Big Ten Tournament play in the friendly confines of Compton Family Ice Arena come Friday. The Fighting Irish icers secured home-ice advantage for the tournament’s first round after they took down Michigan, 2-1, in Ann Arbor on Saturday.
Notre Dame (15-4-5, 10-10-4 Big Ten) will host Michigan State (16-16-2, 10-12-2 Big Ten) in the first quarterfinal round game Friday at 7 p.m. EST. Game two will take place on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. EST. If necessary, game three would be Sunday at 6 p.m. EST.
All three games will be broadcasted on Fox Sports 2 (FS2).
The Spartans hold a 2–1-1 advantage against the Irish this season. Michigan State claimed the last two meetings, 3-0 (Feb. 3) and 3-2 (Feb. 4), in East Lansing. The losses marked the second time ND was swept in a weekend series this season.
Irish coach Jeff Jackson’s squad took down Michigan State, 5-0, in the Big Ten opener in South Bend on Oct. 28. The Irish tied the Spartans, 1-1, the next night.
In last season’s Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal, the Irish topped Wisconsin in three games (1-3; 3-2; 4-2) in South Bend. However, they fell 2-1 to Michigan on the road in the semifinal game.

ND holds a 10-4-3 record at home this season and has won three of their last four games inside Compton. Michigan State is 5-8-1 on the road and has lost six of its last seven Big Ten away games.
