Former Notre Dame assistant Hamlet Tibbs has found a new home. After he spent one season with the Fighting Irish men’s basketball program, Tibbs has been hired by the University of Buffalo as an assistant coach. He will serve under Bulls head coach George Halcovage.

Tibbs spent one season (2022-23) on former Irish head coach Mike Brey’s coaching staff. Last season, Notre Dame finished 11-21 and bowed out of the ACC Tournament’s first round with a 67-64 loss to Virginia Tech.

On March 23, Notre Dame named Micah Shrewsberry the program’s next head coach. The Irish have not officially announced hiring any of his staff assistants.

Before Tibbs’ one season on Brey’s staff, he most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Albany. He is a notable figure in the Albany basketball community, coaching five seasons at The Albany Academy. He was also a part of the Albany City Rocks Program.

Tibbs’ longest tenure featured seven years as an assistant at Vermont. During that time, he aided the program in going 166-61, including a 92-18 conference record. They also won three conference tournament titles.

Tibbs is a 2007 graduate of West Virginia, where he began his basketball career as a student manager for the Mountaineers.
