For the third time this college football season, the Davey O’Brien Award has recognized Notre Dame senior quarterback Riley Leonard to its Great 8 List.

The “Great 8” highlights the top eight quarterback performances weekly during college football season. The award’s namesake, O’Brien, wore No. 8 for TCU, which is why they highlight eight passers weekly. Then, from that list, they will recognize the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week on Tuesday.

In the No. 8 FIghtng Irish’s 51-14 victory over then-No. 24 Navy, Leonard completed 13-21 passes for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns. He added 83 yards and 1 touchdown on 10 carries.

Leonard was also recognized on the “Great 8” list following his performances against Purdue and Louisville. Through 8 games in 2024, he has 1,360 passing yards and 8 touchdowns. He has 539 more yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

Notre Dame Quote of the Day

“Notre Dame is a lot better than you realize. … You know they can play defense; that’s never a problem. I expect that to continue. But the offense is starting to take the strides that would make you think they can maybe be a contender when the (College Football) Playoff arrives here in a few weeks.”

— ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy on Monday’s Always College Football show in his top 10 takeaways segment. McElroy commentated last Saturday’s game against Navy.
