Newsstand: Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard named to Davey O’Brien Award 'Great 8'
For the third time this college football season, the Davey O’Brien Award has recognized Notre Dame senior quarterback Riley Leonard to its Great 8 List.
The “Great 8” highlights the top eight quarterback performances weekly during college football season. The award’s namesake, O’Brien, wore No. 8 for TCU, which is why they highlight eight passers weekly. Then, from that list, they will recognize the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week on Tuesday.
In the No. 8 FIghtng Irish’s 51-14 victory over then-No. 24 Navy, Leonard completed 13-21 passes for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns. He added 83 yards and 1 touchdown on 10 carries.
Leonard was also recognized on the “Great 8” list following his performances against Purdue and Louisville. Through 8 games in 2024, he has 1,360 passing yards and 8 touchdowns. He has 539 more yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.
