The game will have a traditional scoring format. It will include four 15-minute quarters, which will have a running clock at head coach Marcus Freeman’s discretion. The defense cannot blitz more than once every four downs in quarters one through three. That rule goes away in the fourth quarter. There will not be kickoffs, with the ball being spotted at the 35-yard line instead. Punts and punt returns will be normal.
Irish defensive line coach Al Washington is the head coach for Team Gold. Running backs coach Deland McCullough is leading Team Blue. Freeman will wear a microphone and be interviewed on the Peacock broadcast.
A few offensive linemen will wear green jerseys and play for both teams, Freeman said during the draft. He did not specify who.
There is one likely subtraction from the rosters. Junior Lorenzo Styles, drafted by Team Gold as an “athlete” Thursday, entered the transfer portal Friday. He was expected to play receiver and cornerback in the game.
