Every 2023 recruit who flipped to or decommitted from Notre Dame

The flips in and out of Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting class made the prior cycle’s four acts of pilfering and five defections look like calm waters. The Irish swindled six 2023 recruits from other teams’ commitment lists. Seven players exited the class, including one recruit who had previously flipped from elsewhere.

Here’s a look at each player who Notre Dame flipped from somewhere else and each commit who ended up somewhere else.

Flips into the class

• Hendersonville (Tenn.) Pope John Paul II four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey: The No. 184 prospect and No. 13 quarterback, per the On3 Consensus, Minchey chose the Irish in November shortly after backing off a commitment to Pittsburgh.

• Derby (Kan.) four-star running back Dylan Edwards: The No. 167 player and 10th-ranked running back switched his commitment from Kansas State to Notre Dame in August. (He later left the class).

• West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial four-star defensive end Boubacar Traore: The No. 176 recruit and No. 20 defensive lineman flipped from Boston College in April.

• Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard West three-star interior lineman Chris Terek: Notre Dame flipped Terek, the No. 500 overall player and No. 43 interior lineman, from Wisconsin in late November.

• Frisco (Texas) Reedy three-star wide receiver Kaleb Smith: A late addition to the class, Smith backed off a commitment to Texas Tech shortly before an early November official visit to Notre Dame. The No. 513 overall player and 75th-ranked receiver chose the Irish Dec. 1.

• Woodberry Forest (Va.) three-star defensive lineman Armel Mukam: Notre Dame pulled Mukam away from a Stanford commitment in late August. He’s the No. 694 prospect and No. 73 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle.

Departures from the class

• Tampa Berkeley Prep five-star defensive end Keon Keeley: Notre Dame held Keeley’s commitment from June 2021 until August 2022. He rose to five-star status in that span and is the No. 11 overall prospect in 2023. He chose Alabama in December.

• Denton (Texas) Guyer five-star safety Peyton Bowen: The No. 13 overall player chose Notre Dame on Jan. 1, 2022, but flipped to Oregon on signing day. He never sent in a letter of intent, though, and signed with Oklahoma Thursday.

• Edwards: Colorado pried him away from Notre Dame Dec. 10, two days after offering.

• Phoenix Pinnacle four-star offensive tackle Elijah Paige: The No. 241 player and No. 20 tackle in the class chose Notre Dame in June, but flipped to USC in September.

• Lake Stevens (Wash.) running back Jayden Limar: The second of two Notre Dame commits to announce a signing-day flip to Oregon initially chose the Irish in May 2022. He’s the No. 282 prospect and No. 19 running back.

• Las Vegas Bishop Gorman four-star cornerback Justyn Rhett: The No. 299 recruit and No. 36 cornerback was the first 2023 player to commit to the Irish after Marcus Freeman’s elevation to head coach. He took an April official visit to Georgia, though, and chose the Bulldogs nine days after backing off his Notre Dame commitment.

• Miami Christopher Columbus three-star running back Sedrick Irvin Jr.: Notre Dame and Irvin parted ways in May 2022. He chose Stanford on June 30 and stuck with the Cardinal through a coaching change. He’s the No. 485 prospect and No. 33 running back. He initially chose the Irish in September 2021.
