Thirty one Notre Dame football players will partake in a Senior Dar ceremony in South Bend prior to the Fighting Irish’s final home game of 2023 vs. Wake Forest on Saturday. There is potential for some of them to return in 2024, though.

Excluding 13 walk-ons, only quarterback Sam Hartman, wide receiver Matt Salerno, defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste, safeties DJ Brown and Thomas Harper, kicker Spencer Shrader and long snapper Michael Vinson are out of eligibility after this season.

That leaves 11 Notre Dame seniors or graduate students with decisions to make regarding their futures with the program. Most of those players are starters, including linebackers JD Bertrand and Marist Liufau in addition to linebacker Jack Kiser. Cornerback Cam Hart, center Zeke Correll, wide receiver Chris Tyree are also in the group of 11 with eligibility remaining.

“As I told those guys, they should go out for Senior Day because no decisions had been made on their parts,” Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman said Monday. “So they don’t know if this is their last game or not. You should run out there on Senior Day. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have the option to come back next year. For 31 of those guys, they will be running out there for Senior Day.”

Interestingly, seniors Clarence Lewis, Ramon Henderson and Jordan Botelho are not included in the university-issued list of 31 players walking on Senior Day. It’s currently not clear what that means for that trio’s future at Notre Dame.

There are also some seniors by class year but juniors by eligibility standards who are not on the list. That group features the nation’s leader in interceptions, Xavier Watts. He could opt for the 2024 NFL Draft, making this his last game at Notre Dame Stadium, but he is not walking out for Senior Day.

Here is the full list of 31 Irish players who are walking.
