Last week, No. 21 Notre Dame (8-4) opened up as a 4.5-point favorite in the Gator Bowl vs. South Carolina (8-4) according to FanDuel. The line has since shifted in the Gamecocks’ direction.

As of Sunday night, the Irish were favored by 2.5 points per FanDuel. The Irish’s two best players on either side of the ball, junior tight end Michael Mayer and senior defensive end Isaiah Foskey, declared for the NFL Draft last week. They will not play in the Gator Bowl.

It’s still uncertain who will start for the Irish at quarterback, too. Head coach Marcus Freeman spoke to the media this past Saturday. He declined to announce a starter, instead stating sophomore Tyler Buchner and freshman Steve Angeli will be evaluated in practices this week. The Dec. 30 kickoff at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Fla., is rapidly approaching.

Notre Dame tweets of the weekend

Mayer did not win the Mackey Award as the best tight end in college football. His offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, took a subtle shot at the committee that votes on the award.

Former Irish running backs coach Lance Taylor is rising through the coaching ranks quickly. He’s the new head coach at Western Michigan.

Olivia Miles made history.

Quote of the weekend

“The skill set is natural, which is easy. It’s smooth. But then the personality of the kid, there is some confidence there when he steps on the field that he knows he can go make some plays and make some throws. When he gets rolling, I think he’s going to be a great player for us.”
