CBS Sports released its preseason rankings of all 133 FBS teams this week. The outlet is not as high on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as some others.

CBS slotted the Irish at No. 15.

The Irish finished 2022 with a 9-4 record and a No. 18 ranking in the postseason Associated Press Top 25 poll, but they secured Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman from the transfer portal. Hartman significantly raises the team’s ceiling in 2023.

That said, the Irish face three teams ranked in CBS’ top 10. Head coach Marcus Freeman‘s team has to play No. 3 Ohio State, No. 6 USC and No. 9 Clemson. The Ohio State and USC games are at home in South Bend. A trip to Clemson’s Death Valley is scheduled for the first weekend of November.

Quotes of the day

“I’m in no rush. I want to feel 100 percent. I don’t want anything even a little like, ‘This hurts a little bit.’ I want this leg to feel exactly like my other leg before I go out there. It’s mainly just a confidence thing. I just want to feel really confident before I go out.”

“I’m still working my butt off trying to get back but it’s just a matter of time. I’m not trying to rush anything.”
